Here's an easy one for you! Turn an oversized tee into a cool gathered racerback tank for summer! All you need is a thrift store tee (mine was $1), scissors, a pencil and sewing machine/needle & thread!
Takes about 5 minutes. Directions are self explanitory.
Super easy and a much cooler way to wear a tshirt!

Im going to try this! Cute!
ReplyDeleteThis is too cute! What a great idea for old ratty tshirts! http://bearcakecreations.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeletewow! just found your post via pinterest and I am getting ready to go through my husband "workout" t-shirt drawer now! thanks for the inspiration (:
ReplyDeleteI love this, I am so doing this with all of my old t-shirts :)
ReplyDeletefinding every old tee and doing this. Who needs to go tee shopping when you can convert you old ones in time for summer!
ReplyDeleteso... i just made like 9 of these. i guess my two years of organized sports actually paid off. you have no idea how many more camp/tournament tshirts i have.
ReplyDeleteJust did this- I LOVE IT!! Thanks for the post! I think my boyfriend should watch his drawers for the next week...t-shirts may be disappearing!
ReplyDeleteCould you just tie the back into a knot or bow so you wouldn't have to sew? I don't have a sewing machine and don't know how to sew. Hehe
ReplyDeleteI just did one and didn't sew it. Just tied a knot and tucked the end in to make it look more finished. But I am going to sew it eventually, I don't think it will make it through the wash in just a knot.
DeleteMy fabric in the back after the gather is bunching in a not-so-cute way... How to prevent or cut it different?
ReplyDeleteI found that cutting a deep "v" in the back stopped the bunching and helped it lay flatter.
DeleteThanks, Teri! I had the same problem, I'll try your tip :)
DeleteAre there actual written instructions to this? I don't quite get all the steps...
ReplyDeletefound this on pinterest... brilliant! i've already done it to one shirt and i'm gonna do two more :) i don't have a sewing machine... but i trimmed off the top of the collar and used that to tie the back. worked really well. thanks for the great idea :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea but i get kinda confused on which peice wraps around the back
ReplyDeleteYou can use any spare piece to wrap around the back. If the fabric is bunching too much you can always cut the back in just a little narrower.
ReplyDeleteEasy steps are:
Cut off the neckline and measure as low as you'd like it to be. (using a tank top as a stencil works well)
Cut off the sleeves-you can also use a tank top you already have as a guide.
Bunch the back together
use a scrap to secure the shirt.
If you don't have a sewing machine a knot will work you just may have to re-tie after washing.
Hope this helps!
A cord or ribbon looks cute too. Use whatever you have!
DeleteThank you for this!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this shirt tutorial!
ReplyDeletelove this tutorial, so simple and easy - perfect xo
ReplyDeleteI love it! I just made two. Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeletePretty cool, I just made one!
ReplyDeleteI have absolutely no sewing experience, so this may be a silly question, I'm not sure-
ReplyDeletewhen you cut off the sleeves, after multiple wear and washes, will it start coming apart if it's not sewn?
that's a really good idea !
ReplyDeleteI done an article an my blog about you here : http://modeuse-timbree.blogspot.fr/2012/08/diy-9.html
