This morning I got up suuuuuper early, took the train to Bryn Mawr and hiked a ways to get to a very wonderful Main Line estate sale. The house was really cool, and there was a bucketload of incredible vintage finds. Sadly most of the gorgeous 1950s evening gowns had been destroyed from being so poorly stored in a basement or attic over the years. Most of the chiffons were torn, beads lost, rips and stains everywhere. It was heart breaking. Really, a tragedy. However, I managed to find a beautiful 1940s suit with matching chiffon blouse in mint condition and a lovely 1940s dress with a gorgeous neckline. As well as a gold 1950s evening gown with only a few minor wounds (the bodice has ripped along one seam, and there's one small stain on the hem) that can be easily mended.
Also, the woman who lived there was an avid seamstress and I managed to get a lot of quality vintage fabrics.
Unfortunately, to my dismay there were no hats. I'm a bit grumpy about that. I do love hats so much.
On the bright side, my boyfriend attended the opening day and brought me home a huge box of vintage patterns that included some vintage Betsey Johnson patterns! Exciting! I can't wait to get to work.
happy sewing!
