summer sewing

Summer is my most prolific time of year for sewing. Why? Well, because I like sewing dresses. I'm setting a goal for myself this summer to make myself a whole 1930s/40s inspired wardrobe complete with handmade hats! I was lucky enough to find some amazing reproduction patterns at JoAnn's this weekend along with some great fabric scores (Half off red tag fabrics? I'm there!). I saved over $50! Here are a few things I plan on making.

I am absolutely in love with the green hat on the far left. It's absolutely stunning! I decided to make it in a soft camel color to match the fabric for the dress below.

As soon as I saw this fabric at JoAnn's I knew it was destined for a 1940s dress. I plan on making the dress on the right. Paired with the hat, it will be incredible! (I decided to go ahead and get more fabric than I needed because it was not only on sale, but I knew it has potential for so much more) I've also been dying to try out this pattern. I just love the shape of the dress!

I also purchased this Vogue #2787 pattern. The shape is so unique! I plan on using the fabric below.

I found this fabric at a thrift store...about 3 yards for $1. It's very stretchy and has a nice '40s appeal to it. The print is very large and I think it might work well with the dress.

This pattern was only $1.99 at JoAnn's! I've been wanting to try the Lisette patterns for awhile since they are just cute as a button and can be whipped up fairly quickly. I love the outfit the model is wearing with the short sleeve blouse and skirt. I think I even found the perfect fabric combination for a cute vintage look.

This pretty piece I intend to use for the short sleeve blouse. I found it at an estate sale for $1 among other gorgeous vintage fabrics.

This is a really nice piece of suit fabric I picked up at JoAnn's today. Perfect for the skirt! I actually was buying only 1/4 yard of it for a custom costume I'm making, but the girl at the cutting counter offered to give me the rest of the bolt (about a yard and a half) at a discounted rate, so I pretty much got the whole thing for about $3! The buttons? Free.

I am definitely excited to get started!
