1950s pin up bathing suit

I realized that I never did a legitimate blog post for this project. This was another exercise in using a draping method. I've grown very tired of using conventional patterns and anymore find that items fit better when I drape, cut and sew!

This is a bikini inspired by bathing suits of the 1950s. I used a leftover remnant of a cherry print jersey knit. I used a double layer of the fabric, which holds up very well. I engineered the bottom to hold up on it's own without using elastic. I accomplished that my using darts to give it a tailored fit that hugs my hips. The knit fabric holds up surprisingly well on its own.

This was my first ever attempt at making a bathing suit, but I thought why the heck not?

I may have to post a tutorial. But I mean, summer is basically over...I'm ready for coats!

BERNINA/Burda Style Update! Pink & Gold!

I am so so very happy to post a project after so long! I was approached by Burda Style to do a Member Project of the Week and was allowed to choose one of their many beautiful sewing patterns to create! Of course I chose the amazing 'Off The Shoulder Dress' plus size pattern because it's such an elegant and alluring design that screams pin up and glamour!

To be honest, it is a very challenging dress. The directions were quite tricky, so I ended up completely scrapping them and figuring it all out as I went. The dress is fully lined and features a slit in the back as well as an invisible zipper.

My lovely friend Miss Rose of Bravissimo Burlesque was kind enough to be my model and offer shooting space. She looks absolutely perfect in this dress! We had a blast with the photo shoot :)

Special thanks to Burda Style for sponsoring this project and thanks to BERNINA for providing the power!

Also, isn't pink and gold a wonderful combination?!
