comic con

Alright. I'm just going to come out and admit it. I am a woman and I willingly saw The Avengers in the theater. Three times. I like comic books. I also enjoy movies based on comic books. I also have a ticket to Philadelphia Comic Con this weekend.

So, in celebration I dressed up in a little homemade Batgirl costume for Trash Planet. (I will unfortunately not be dressing up to Comic Con this year...I didn't have enough time to sew a costume, boo!)

pretty in pink

I have spent the majority of my day off sitting under a fan and watching Pretty In Pink. It's one of my favorite movies that I can watch over and over and it never makes me feel like I want to barf from overdosing. I have always felt a connection with Andie. We both are social outcasts, have a goofy guy best friend, she makes her own clothes and has her own quirky style. Also...Andrew McCarthy. Yes. Please.

Anyways, I got inspired.

And here you go:

punk rock summer!

So, I've been super lazy bones about posting this week. Mostly due to nonstop work throughout the Memorial Day weekend. But this coming weekend I am completely free and hitting up the Philadelphia Comic Convention YAYYYY. But I'll talk more on that later because...

I dyed my hair red! Yikes!

Anyways, it is HOT in Philly. And when I say hot I mean more like sticking your face in an oven kind of hot. So really, what better way to fashionably celebrate such awful weather than by wearing the old standby of shorts and a tshirt!

I'll admit. I am guilty of being non fashionable this week and throwing on a pair of cutoffs and my favorite Phillies tshirt and rocking some sneakers. I'm lazy. But you probably already knew this. However I'm making up for it by actually jazzing up my outfit today.

Another thing about summer fashion is that I hate flip flops. Yeah, I said it. FLIP FLOPS ARE GROSS, DUDE! Number one, feet are weird looking. Two, when you spend a lot of time walking city streets and riding subways your feet are exposed to a number of things. Bar vomit, broken bottles, trash, grime...the very fact that homeless people are known to use sidewalks and subways areas as toilets keeps me up at night. Um, NO THANKS. Flip flops are for the beach. And showering at summer camp. Wear some real shoes, kids.

Anyways, I jazzed up the summer essential outfit with some boots, a funky necklace and my new Betsey Johnson bag. It's comfy but more put-together. And kick ass. Duh.

Now all you need is some Reagan Youth and a Wawa hot dog.

Also, make friends with people who have air conditioning.

Enjoy.

thursday: the $20 outfit

I love a good blue dress. Blue has always been my "color" when it comes to clothes. I've got a light complexion and blue eyes and it just makes me stand out a bit I think. I found this dress this past week at Plato's Closet for only $10! It was brand new with the original tags and begging me to take it home. Pretty much the entire outfit came from Plato's Closet. Grand total? $20! If you haven't visited one of their stores, you totally should. It's the same concept as Buffalo Exchange but I feel like PC is much cheaper and a lot less..."hipster oriented". They have an outstanding variety of summer dresses right now that is begging me to check out. Find your local one here:

wednesday: western goes urban

This skirt is one of my awesome recent finds at my local thrift store. It's a vintage Gunne Sax button up front skirt and it is gorgeous! I love prairie style clothing...the florals...the simple details...so cute! I decided to make take a spin off the typical "western" outfit and make it more urban and wearable for summer.

i have wheels.

Bike wheels, man. Picked up this 1970s bike on Craigslist a couple weeks back. It's my summer project. Makes me actually want to go out on sunny days and ride around. Also, it makes me want to take 70s style photographs.

black planet

Took my camera out to the park today, drank beer on the porch and listened to obscene amounts of Sisters of Mercy. I think it influenced my outfit a little bit.

summertime florals

I've been a bit under the weather lately so I haven't had the energy to work on any sewing projects, tutorials...what have you. So, I'm posting some lovely summer outfits.

Honestly, I think I spent half the day in bed or watching horror movies today. Going to take a little walk and find myself some sushi for dinner!

Dress: Etsy
Shoes: Goodwill
Hat: Buffalo Exchange

I tend to dress very simply in the summer. This dress is perfect for the nasty, muggy weather we're having. Can you believe that this dress is about 70 years old?! 70! I found it on Etsy last year for $10. It's got a few rough patches...a few tears that I've mended but for it's age, it still looks fairly new.

Sigh. Time for sushi!
